Job Profile:
BIs teach young children with autism how to play and communicate, learn school readiness skills, and develop self-help skills like teeth brushing and dressing. BIs are an important part of a child’s team and they work with other professionals like behaviour consultants, speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists.
BI Job Requirements:
- Loves children and enjoys playing with them
- Can work independently and as a member of a team
- Has strong organization and time management skills
- Is flexible and open to learning
- Can work with children with challenging behaviours
- Is physically fit to work with young children
- Has a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Has a current Child Safe First Aid Certificate (or be willing to update)

- Works with children one to one in the child’s home or at a Reach centre

As a Child and Youth Care Worker at REACH Child and Youth Development Society’s Respite Home, you
will play a vital role in caring for complex and challenging children and youth in a small,
two-bedroom respite home setting. These are full-time positions at 37.5 hours per week (varying
shifts) and your role will include providing day-to-day in-home direct care up to and including
personal care to persons with developmental disabilities, and implementing the care plan with
various strategies and interventions to assist the growth, development and success of the person
you will be caring for. You will participate as a member of the care team, facilitate activities
and outings for the individual, regularly write reports and submit documentation on the
individual’s plan, and respond to and help the person safely through behavioral needs and
challenges. As per Reach Policies and Procedures, employees in a permanent position of 20+ hours
per week are eligible (after passing probation) for extended health benefits and pension plan, as
well as paid vacation and sick time.
Daytime Shifts Available:
Tuesday – Saturday 7:00am – 3:00 pm
Wednesday – Sunday 6:00 am – 2:00 pm
Afternoon Shifts Available:
Monday – Friday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Tuesday - Saturday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Wednesday – Sunday 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensures that client’s physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met.
• Writing reports and daily documentation
• Assist clients to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills.
• Administer personal care to clients when needed, such as aid in bathing, personal hygiene, and
dressing and undressing,
• Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients when needed
• May perform routine health-related duties such as assisting in the administration of medications
• May perform or assist clients in routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes
and making beds.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
• Minimum of a 1-year certification in any of the following: Human Service Worker, Community and
Care Worker, Child & Youth Care, Addictions and Community Worker, diploma in Residential Care Aide
fields, and:
• 6 months experience, or an equivalent of relevant education and experience.

As an Awake Overnight Respite Worker at REACH Child and Youth Development Society’s Respite Home,
you will play a vital role in caring for complex and challenging children and youth in a two- bedroom, respite home
setting. Your role will include monitoring individuals throughout the night and assist them to returning to bed if they wake,
supporting them with morning routines, perform or assist with personal care such as bathing or toileting and general housekeeping
as well as food preparation duties (as required). As per Reach Policies and Procedures, employees in a permanent position of 20+ hours per week are eligible (after passing probation) for extended health benefits and pension plan, as well as paid vacation and
sick time.
